ENG
Rise, Strangers. Not “Stand up”, but “Rise”. Human wrecks treated like stars spreading light all around, showing the path to the blind, an escape route illuminated by Passion.
The pirates reaching the Sicilian coasts are strangers like each one of us, anywhere we go we can feel like strangers if the life we live doesn’t belong to us; and when the mind can’t put things back together, then irrational forces intervene, like the storm disrupts the waves and people’s lives with a power only Love can unleash.
On stage: a small/big red triangle. Maybe it’s Eros’ arrowhead; maybe a boat, or what’s left of it after the storm has crushed it on Sicily’s coasts; maybe it’s Sicily itself, archetypal ever-moving land, creator/destroyer, where everything that dies is reborn from its own rotation, where losing one’s compass may lead to the right direction: simply one’s own. May it be through folly or coming to one’s senses, it does not matter, because for us Pirandellian Sicilians it’s the same thing in the end: the point is not to die of tedium and make a desperate attempt to find the direction, even to the point of becoming or even playing at being pirates. And here, on stage, for us… it could be exactly the same thing.
